If you ask a pet owner what they fear most about the summer months, the top answer is generally fleas. If you own a pet, even if it’s an indoor animal, you are already at risk for a flea infestation.  Needing to feed off the blood of a host, fleas use their strong back legs to jump onto the warm-blooded animal and make a home. After being introduced into the household, fleas are very difficult to get rid of because flea eggs can fall off the host anywhere the host spends time, including the couch, carpet, and bed. Flea bites can cause itching, skin infections, and hair loss to both animals and humans. To treat, we first have to determine whether the infestation is due to pets coming in and out of the household, or if it is from heavy infestation in the surrounding yard space.
